Amnesty International Meeting - "Ricin"
Julian Hayes spoke at the recent meeting at Amnesty International in London on his experiences in the Ricin case. He spoke out against the proposals made in the Governments green paper on legal aid and the devastating impact it would have on access to justice. He expressed concerns that whilst British Justice was seen to be done in the Ricin case, if it was tried now he feared that, with the plethora of changes in legal aid over recent years and the proposals being made in the green paper, the result would not be the same. Julian, along with fellow panel members and speakers Michael Mansfield QC, Diane Abbott MP, Lawrence Archer and chair Peter Oborne, answered questions from the audience on various aspects of the case, legal aid, control orders and the recent legislation on detention of suspects before charge.
